Abstract

There has been a shift in the causes of death from infectious diseases to non-communicable diseases (NCDs), influenced by various factors, including environmental changes accompanied by lifestyle and behavioral changes in society, as well as demographic, socio economic, and cultural transitions. There are several risk factors for NCDs, such as active and passive smoking, alcohol consumption, dietary patterns, obesity drug use, and family history. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct blood glucose and uric acid examinations as parameters for NCD screening. The purpose of examining blood glucose and uric acid levels is to serve as a form of NCD screening within the community. The method used was capillary blood testing for random blood glucose and uric acid levels using a point of care testing  (POCT) device on 32 subjects. The subjects in this activity were local residents and visitors at Kereng Bangkirai Pier (Sabangau Blackwater Tourism Area) in Palangka Raya City. The result showed that out of 32 subjects, 24 (75%) had normal blood glucose levels, none had hypoglycemia, and 8 (25%) had hyperglycemia. Among 32 subjects, 6 (85.7%) male subjects had normal uric acid levels, while 1 (14,3%) male subjects showed hyperuricemia. Meanwhile, 17 (68%) female subjects had normal uric acid levels and 8 (32%) subjects showed hyperuricemia. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that most of the subjects at Kereng Bangkirai Pier (Sabangau Blackwater Tourism Area) in Palangka Raya City have normal blood glucose and uric acid levels.
